Hemp silk bed throw - Print 1/27Jul21
king size – 230 x 140 cm
An ultra-luxurious but still robust version of the linen bed throw. The botanical printing is done on the silky side of the fabric, resulting in a detailed and precise lustrous surface and a more smudgy and abstract matte side. This fabric comes in a standard roll width, which means that the throw is not as wide as the linen bed throws.
This print is called "Dreaming of a road trip" and its my abstract interpretation of the patchwork fields that you can see driving through the interior farmlands of South Africa. The print is blocked into loosely shaped areas, each featuring a single plant species. Some of the printing has been done off dried and crushed material, while some is fresh and retains its original structure. I particularly love the dark onion skin print and the seeds of the blombos, just going out of bloom. Texture and earthy colour. The overall effect is vibrant and detailed with mysterious shapes and faces lurking in the depths.
The finish is with a hemp linen border of 3 cm, visible on the silky side, and with mitered corners. The hemp silk is a precious fabric and not always available.
Print 1/27Jul21 features wild rosemary, Queensland silver wattle, various eucalyptus leaves and bark, blombos, bankrupt bush and casuarina.
